Please read these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) carefully before using the website and services offered by the International Society for Socratic Studies (ISSS).
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using our website (socraticstudies.org), you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of these Terms, you may not access our website.
2. Membership
2.1 Eligibility
Membership in the International Society for Socratic Studies is open to scholars, students, and individuals with a demonstrated interest in Socratic studies. The Society reserves the right to review membership applications and request supporting documentation, including academic CVs, to verify eligibility.
2.2 Membership Dues
At present, the ISSS does not charge membership dues. The Society reserves the right to implement membership dues in the future as determined by the Executive Committee. Membership benefits commence upon approval of application.
2.3 Termination of Membership
The Society reserves the right to terminate membership for violation of these Terms, Society bylaws, or conduct deemed detrimental to the Society.
3. Intellectual Property
3.1 Society Content
All content on our website, including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, images, audio clips, digital downloads, and data compilations, is the property of the International Society for Socratic Studies or its content suppliers and is protected by international copyright laws.
3.2 Member Contributions
By submitting content to our website or publications, you grant the Society a non-exclusive, royalty-free, and fully sublicensable right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, and display such content throughout the world in any media.
3.3 Fair Use
Limited excerpts of Society materials may be used for educational and scholarly purposes in accordance with fair use principles, provided appropriate attribution is given.
4. User Conduct
When using our website and participating in Society activities, you agree not to:
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations
- Infringe upon the rights of others
- Submit false or misleading information
- Distribute viruses or any other harmful computer code
- Engage in spamming or unauthorized advertising
- Interfere with the proper functioning of the website
- Harass, abuse, or harm another person

5. Publications and Events
5.1 News and Announcements
The Society may publish information about IXS and other events, newsletters, links to articles, and other Xenophon-related materials the ISSS Executive Committee deems of interest to its members. ISSS will circulate Calls for Papers and information about other events if they are explicitly about Socratic studies, mention Socratic philosophies in their Call for Papers, or include panels/keynotes on the Socratics. Academic events only tangentially related to Socrates and the Socratic Circle will not be circulated via email but may be added to the “News” or “Events” sections of the ISSS website.
5.2 Events
Participation in Society events is subject to registration requirements and capacities. The Society reserves the right to modify or cancel events and to refuse participation to any individual.
6. Website Use
6.1 Account Security
If you create an account on our website, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account information and for restricting access to your computer. You agree to accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account.
6.2 Third-Party Links
Our website may contain links to third-party websites. These links are provided solely for convenience and do not imply endorsement of or responsibility for the content of linked sites.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
